Bruce Jenner on Vanity Fair is just what the publishing industry needs

A source told People.com that "[Bruce] Jenner, 65, who calls his female identity 'Her,' will appear as a woman in the Vanity Fair pictorial, to hit stands this summer."

Our minds are buzzing with ideas for art direction! Of course, Jenner isn't the first transgender celebrity to be celebrated on the cover of a major American magazine.

More: Everything we know about the Bruce Jenner docuseries

Laverne Cox from Orange Is the New Black made history when she appeared on the cover of Time, but she was very clear that her story wasn't ubiquitous. Cox told Time, "There's not just one trans experience. And I think what [people] need to understand is that not everybody who is born feels that their gender identity is in alignment with what they're assigned at birth, based on their genitalia. If someone needs to express their gender in a way that is different, that is OK, and they should not be denied healthcare. They should not be bullied."

Jenner's story is unique to him, and we expect his photo shoot to reflect his journey from Olympic athlete to family man to reality TV star. Finally landing on his new identity as a woman is just the icing on the cake, and we want Jenner's photos to reflect his entire life.

More: Kris Jenner wonders if her entire life with Bruce was a lie (VIDEO)

In addition to the trans community celebrating this exciting magazine cover, no doubt the world of publishing sees this as a win for selling actual magazines. With the popularity of online outlets, people are buying fewer paper magazines, and this event will no doubt inspire many people to purchase the issue with the hope that it will become a collector's item.

So what can we expect from the Jenner/Leibovitz photo shoot? We're hoping for an exotic locale and a designer dress at the very least. Leibovitz photographed the cast of Star Wars for the cover of June's Vanity Fair, and the photographs were classy and thought-provoking, giving a nod to the history of the beloved franchise. We hope Jenner's photographs will do the same.

What to know before adopting a second dog

Radar needed regular exercise and affection, but I was maxed out by breastfeeding, diaper changing and exhaustion. Something had to give, and in a postpartum haze, I dreamed that another dog would solve my problems. It's perfect, I thought. I'll just give them food — and they will exercise and tend to each other!

dog and baby

Image: Mary McCoy

According to veterinarian Dr. Amber Andersen, I should thank my lucky stars that my postpartum follow-through was exceptionally poor. "It's common for owners to consider getting a companion for their only dog, and others just want to provide a home to a needy pet," she said, "but owners must make sure they have the time, energy and financial resources to care for another animal."

If there were three things I was short on, it was time, energy and money. For me, it wasn't the right time for another dog. I would have ended up even more depleted and broke since a second animal would have required more exercise and care than I was able to give.

Of course, many owners with a solo pooch approach the second dog question from a different position. Andersen said that if an owner has time, energy and resources, there's no reason to fear getting another animal — and there are many benefits to the decision, too. "Both dogs and humans can benefit from living in a multi-dog household," Andersen explained. "The dogs can entertain each other and also provide a lot of love to people."

The trick, of course, is to locate a second dog that meshes well with the first dog in the household. Andersen says that you can select a second pet by considering temperament — like choosing a submissive dog if your first dog tends to be dominant — but you really can't foresee how the dogs will interact until you see them together. As a result, she suggests that owners should start the process by doing a trial period with the new dog. If it doesn't work out, no harm and no foul.

Finally, once you select a dog for a trial period, make sure that you're setting the animals up for success. "The meeting of the new dog and old dog should occur outside the household," Andersen said. "Owners should pick a neutral area for the meeting, like a park or street."

Once the new dog and old dog meet, owners can walk them into the home together, which will neutralize displays of dominance and minimize territorial threats in the home. "Monitor the animals closely for the first few weeks to make sure everyone is getting along," she added. After a few weeks of successful interaction, you can breathe easily in your new normal.

Ashley Graham's moving TED talk is your new confidence anthem (VIDEO)

Graham, who was the first plus-size model to grace the pages of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, gave this incredible TED talk titled "Plus Size? More Like My Size" that began with a pep talk to herself in a full-length mirror.

"You are bold, you are brilliant and you are beautiful," she told herself. "There is no other woman like you. You are capable. Back fat? I see you popping over my bra today, but that's all right, I'm going to choose to love you. And thick thighs? You are just so sexy you can't stop rubbing each other. That's all right. I'm going to keep you."

"And cellulite," she continued, "I have not forgotten about you. I'm going to choose to love you even though you want to take over my whole bottom half. You're a part of me and I love you."

Graham explained to the crowd that her words are her way of taking control back over her body — a body that others tried to label her entire life.

"My body, like my confidence, has been picked apart, manipulated and controlled by others who didn't necessarily understand it," she said. "Once I reclaimed ownership over my body, I discovered a greater purpose as a woman who was defying preconceived standards of feminine beauty."

The model, who has landed five major covers in the last year, said that her experience is easily translatable for the rest of us: Delete the word "can't" from your vocabulary, especially when it comes to loving yourself.

"Never let anyone tell you you can't... " she said. "It is critical that both men and women create a body-positive environment. Uplift the important women in your lives, create a safe space for them to express their beauty and feel comfortable embracing their bodies and who they are, not hiding them because of what they're not."

Positive Messages In Public Health Campaigns Could Be More Effective Than Negative Ones

For most people, hearing about the benefits of eating healthy food is a more effective push to change their behavior than hearing why they shouldn’t be eating junk, a new study claims.

This is according to an analysis from Cornell University’s Food and Brand Lab of 43 published studies examining nutrition messages of public health campaigns.

The review found that negative messages — like “Eat healthy foods or lose years off your life!” — are effective for some audiences, particularly experts like physicians or nutritionists who are already knowledgeable in the field. However, positive messages pertaining to what someone should be eating and why it is good for them — such as “By eating healthfully, people can gain positive body image or energy” — tend to work better for a general audience that is less knowledgeable about nutrition.

“If you’re a parent, it’s better to focus on the benefits of broccoli and not the harms of hamburgers,” said Cornell marketing and nutritional science professor Bryan Wansink, who co-authored the report with University of Vermont nutrition and dietetics professor Lizzy Pope, in a release announcing the study.

Extending the research into the area of anti-smoking campaigns, the report argues that a positive message, like “If you quit smoking using this help line, you can save almost $2,000 a year,” would likely be more motivating to its audience than the negative message “Smoking kills you” that is more commonly used.

Recent research on education has also come to a similar conclusion. A 2014 study from the American Psychological Association reported that students who felt threatened by their teachers’ fear-based appeals performed worse on tests because the scare tactics made the students less motivated to succeed.

The Cornell study seems to indicate a shift away from the more attention-grabbing public health campaigns of recent years, such as New York’s “Don’t Drink Yourself Fat” anti-soda campaign and France’s “Smoking Means Being a Slave to Tobacco” anti-smoking ads.

Still, there are caveats. The study’s authors advise public health officials to focus their message on its intended audience, so depending the particular characteristics of that particular audience -- such as how detail-oriented or risk-averse it is --a negative public health campaign could still be effective. For example, the provocative "Tips from Former Smokers" ad campaign from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was credited with helping about 100,000 people permanently quit smoking in 2013.

The report was published earlier this year in the Nutrition Reviews journal and will also be presented at the Society of Nutrition Education and Behavior annual conference in Pittsburgh in July. The research was partially funded by the Produce for Better Health Foundation, a consumer education nonprofit.

Woman covers 'Lose Yourself' with amazing sign language video

Shelby Mitchusson is an ASL interpreter who performed Eminem's "Lose Yourself" on YouTube. It's absolutely beautiful. And though it's her first viral video, she has been doing this for years. Look out for her. See below:

lose yourself

lose yourself

What is most amazing about this video is her passion. It's easy for an interpreter to sit back and just phone it in, but her sign language conveys the tone of the music. The passion. The anger. The vitality of Eminem. Even a person who can't hear can feel that. And that's the whole point.

"I have a deep love for interpreting music and would love to share more as I am always interpreting music," she wrote on YouTube.

More: Science may have discovered the secret to youth

For people with disabilities, it can be very difficult to get equal treatment. ASL interpretation can be an afterthought. With this woman's passion, she's bringing that issue to the forefront. Why shouldn't ASL interpreters use their bodies to really convey what is being said? A deaf person may never "hear" the sharp tones in Eminem's voice or the way he angrily spits out his words, but they will see her and her body movements and be able to feel all the emotion inherent in the song.

More: 15 Disabilities you can't see with the naked eye

And that's the whole point. For those of us who haven't stopped to think about ASL or interpretation for deaf people, this is a must watch. Listen with the sound off and prepare to be amazed.

Moms spill about what really happens to your vagina after birth

When I first got pregnant, the postpartum aftermath of my vagina was literally the last thing on my mind. There was a registry to create. A nursery to decorate. A name to pick. Childbirth classes to attend. (And the list goes on.) I was able to conveniently keep my mind off my vagina (and my vagina off my mind), until I popped that baby out and it was just too late.

It happened. I gave birth. And my vagina was ruined forever.

Fortunately, my "woe is vagina" attitude was a touch dramatic. In the vast majority of cases, your lady business does bounce back quite nicely after birth — in my case, two births. But in order to preserve your sanity in those first few hormonal weeks after having a baby, it helps to know what you're getting into. This is the real deal, from moms who have been there, about what your vagina is going to look like after you give birth.

1. It's a horror show

Horror

Image: Giphy

There is no mincing of words here. If you look below the waist mere hours after birthing a baby, it may haunt you for all of time. Jill Smokler, mom of three, editor in chief of Scary Mommy and author of Confessions of a Scary Mommy, says, "There is nothing quite like a vagina after producing a child. Actually, think of the nastiest horror movie you've ever seen — the one you had to turn away from because it was so grotesque, so unthinkable and so horrific even the mere thought of it makes you shiver? That's a vagina after birth. Whatever you do: Do not look. Or you will regret it for the rest of your life."

2. It's bloody

Carrie

Image: Giphy

Speaking of a horror movie, I hope you listened to your doctor when he told you to buy postpartum pads, and plenty of them. Eileen Zyko, mom of two sons, confirms: "Stretched-out, painful vagina aside, it was more blood than I ever thought possible coming out of my body for weeks. I wish that was ever mentioned in any book or by anyone. Seriously, the worst part about the whole thing. That and the sitz bath!"

3. It hurts

Oprah

Image: Giphy

I would love to pretend I skipped off into a field of dandelions after vaginally birthing an 8-pound baby boy (twice), but that fantasy did not play out for me, and it did not play out for stylist Jeni Elizabeth either — a "war hero" mom who went through 52 hours of labor with her son. Elizabeth's biggest takeaway from birth was how much her hoo-ha hurt: "You will never 'forget the pain.' It will haunt you forever. However, it's worth it."

4. It's torn

Kimora

Image: Giphy

Why is your vagina hurting so damn much after having a baby? It could be because your lady flower just stretched to accommodate a human head like it was no big deal. It could also be because, like so many women before you, your baby cannon tore, and the doc had to stitch it back up. While thinking of a torn vagina is enough to turn any woman's stomach, one Reddit mom of two remains fairly upbeat about the whole ordeal: "She was 9 pounds, 3 ounces. I had a second degree tear. I had to use a peri bottle to pee for at least three weeks, and thanks to Pitocin (a.k.a. the devil's juice) my entire body was sore as well. I didn't get the courage to look down there for two months, and it wasn't too bad. My labia minora were a little longer, but I wasn't too upset because they were almost nonexistent previously."

5. It's stretchy

Honey boo boo

Image: Giphy

There are two words I wish to never hear together again, and they are: stretchy vagina. No, thank you, please. Following the unmedicated birth of her son, Anna Lane of Misadventures in Motherhood said that she mistakenly assumed she could hop off the table and get to mothering. Nope. Lane explains: "I guess no one bothered to tell me that your vagina gets so stretched out that you feel as though you've had an instant gender reassignment surgery. And the rug burns on your labia! Oh my goodness, the pain."

6. It's veiny

Vomit

Image: Giphy

Veiny postpartum vaginas don't happen to every new mom, but they do happen to some "lucky" ladies. When asked about the state of her postpartum baby box, Jamie H., mom of two and owner of Toys in the Dryer, keeps it short, sweet and very, very real: "Varicose veins! Large, ugly varicose veins on my labia!"

7. It's inside out

Disgusted

Image: Giphy

Now we come to the "somebody hold me" portion of the article. Gaby Merediz, mom of two boys and owner of Make Your Perfect, says that after the birth of her first son, her vagina looked surprisingly normal. Fast-forward to baby No. 2, and Merediz was dealing with a whole different animal. "My vagina is now inside out. Yep, that's right — there is definitely skin on the outside that feels a lot like what was supposed to remain on the inside," Merediz recalls. "When I was feeling around to see how everything was, um, feeling down there maybe three weeks after delivering my second baby, I noticed a hard spot toward the back wall of the vagina. When I called my midwife to ask her about it, she said, 'That's OK. It's just a little rectal prolapse.' Rectal what?!? I had images of my butt turning inside out, too. Kegels, she assured me, would hold everything back into place again."

Man's proposal at someone else's wedding makes everyone furious

The anonymous picture, uploaded to Reddit this week by an unnamed user, which shows a wedding guest proposing to his girlfriend right in front of the bride and groom at their reception has been met with outrage and ridicule online.

See the photo below:

proposal

proposal

Admittedly, it is a selfish act to decide to use someone else's emotionally charged day to do your own big, emotionally charged event. That said, the attitude that is so pervasive in our culture about the bride being a "princess" for a day is equally annoying.

More: The real reason 'happy' married people cheat is so surprising

Yes, it is her day. But how does it really hurt her to have some friends be happy, too? The proposal probably took 10 minutes away, so playing devil's advocate, who cares? Weddings have been ruined over a lot worse things than love.

Granted, I am not sure I'd be thrilled if someone chose my wedding day for that. But there is also no law that says the bride gets nonstop fawning and attention and no one else is allowed to be happy. Personally, I think this is sweet. It honors marriage and what they have just witnessed. And certainly the woman can't be blamed. She likely had no idea.

The internet needs to take a collective chill pill. All I see on the bride's face is happiness. Another wedding! Where is the harm in that?

Grumpy Cat signs comic book deal and the cover is perfect (PHOTO)

Grumpy Cat Limited plans to collaborate with Dynamite Entertainment to print both digital comic books and graphic novels starring "The World's Grumpiest Cat," along with her brother and loyal sidekick, Pokey.

The very first Grumpy Cat comics will be released as a three-issue miniseries in fall 2015. We can all look forward to a hardcover Grumpy Cat graphic novel by the time Christmas 2015 rolls around. Even the most hardcore Grumpy Cat followers will be appeased. Dynamite, best known for its comic book bestsellers like A Game of Thrones and The Boys, plans to launch an official Grumpy Cat comic website this summer with new comic strips posted online every week.

Here's just a small sample of the action you can expect from this Grumpy Cat venture. To my untrained eye, the illustrators nailed Grumpy's grumpiness perfectly on this comic book cover:

Grumpy Cat

Keith Davidsen, marketing manager at Dynamite Entertainment, gushes, "With her ever-present pout and sassy disposition, Grumpy Cat has won the hearts of people everywhere. I can tell you, we're thrilled, just absolutely thrilled, to bring this adorable curmudgeon's misadventures to the comic world!"

From The Misadventures of Grumpy Cat (And Pokey!), Davidsen says fans can expect more of what made Grumpy Cat so popular in the first place: unbearable cuteness. He continues, "If you love the memes, the videos and that irresistible scowl, then get ready for the wildly fun antics of Grumpy Cat and Pokey in Dynamite's all-new, all-sensational Grumpy Cat comics!"

But what do Grumpy Cat fans think? Does a Grumpy Cat comic make the disgruntled kitty a sellout, or is it a step in the right direction?

Grumpy Cat twitter

Grumpy Cat twitter

I fall into the Grumpy Cat fan category of those chanting, "More! More! More!" There's something about that cat's sour puss that makes me laugh every time. Circulate a randomly hilarious Grumpy Cat meme on Facebook, and I'm bound to "like" it.

More than a few devotees in Grumpy Cat's massive fan base, which includes 7.6 million Facebook followers and over 31 million YouTube hits, seem to agree with me. These are the same people who are buying the now-viral cat's books, earning her a coveted spot with two New York Times bestsellers. These are the same people who have the Grumpy Cat Lifetime movie on their DVR and may or may not have a Grumpy Cat calendar on their wall. (My 2-year-old is taking a nap with his stuffed Grumpy Cat as I write — guilty.)

Dynamite Entertainment's Grumpy Cat comic books and graphic novels will be sold in the specialty comic book market, with graphic novels also available for purchase online and in major and indie bookstores. If you, too, just gotta have more of this chronically unhappy cat, you can follow her official Facebook page to track the comic's fall release date.

Paracetamol challenge: Social media craze nobody should be a part of

It has been reported that an Ayrshire teenager has been hospitalised after taking large amounts of the over-the-counter painkiller, leading to many schools and police forces issuing warnings about the potentially lethal consequences of taking part in this "challenge."

In a statement to ITV News, Alan Ward, head of schools at East Ayrshire Council, said: "The challenge results in young people daring each other, through Instagram and Facebook, to take excessive amounts of paracetamol and this is a matter of great concern. We are urging parents to talk to their children about the potential dangers of taking paracetamol and to discourage their children from engaging in any online activity in support of this dangerous craze."

More: Suicide contagion may be impacting your teen without you even realising it

Paracetamol is one of the world's most widely used drugs and packs of it can be bought for less than £1 without a prescription, meaning it is easy for young people to get their hands on it. It is deemed to be harmless by many but in large quantities it can have severe serious side effects, such as vomiting, kidney failure and liver damage. In extreme cases an overdose can lead to fluid on the brain and even death.

What Your Morning Coffee Has To Do With Erections

According to new research from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, men who drink the caffeine equivalent of two to three cups of coffee per day are less likely to have erectile dysfunction.

The study, which was published in the journal PLOS ONE, found that men who consumed between 85 and 170 milligrams of caffeine a day were 42 percent less likely to suffer from ED, while those who consumed between 171 and 303 milligrams were 39 percent less likely.

The researchers surveyed 3,700 men, all of whom were asked to fill out a questionnaire about how much caffeine they had consumed over the past 24 hours. While the study found that caffeine intake reduced the likelihood of ED in obese, overweight and hypertensive men, the same was not true of those with diabetes.

“Caffeine could not overcome the detrimental effects of diabetes on erectile dysfunction," lead study author David Lopez explained. "We were not very surprised by this, because diabetes is one of the strongest risk factors associated with erectile dysfunction."

An estimated 30 million American men struggle with ED, which is the inability to sustain an erection for as long as desired. Overall, the risk of erectile dysfunction increases with age. About 40 percent of 40-year-olds struggle with ED and 70 percent of 70-year-olds have the same problem, as previously reported by The Huffington Post.

The researchers theorized that caffeine's effect on the body includes relaxing the helicine arteries of the penis, which in turn improves blood flow, which is how erections are formed:

Graphic by Alissa Scheller for The Huffington Post.

Caffeine sources on the survey included energy drinks and soda in addition to coffee and tea, but Lopez pointed out that soda and energy drinks are extremely unhealthy.

"Keep in mind that besides caffeine, energy drinks and soda have other ingredients that we don’t know too much about," he told HuffPost. "We do know a lot about sugar -- it’s strongly linked with diabetes and obesity. There are other drinks that are sugar-free, but some of those ingredients are associated with cancer."

Because this is an association study, Lopez says he can't make any recommendations for caffeine intake just yet.

"I can tell you that a foundation has been laid for the association between caffeine and erectile dysfunction," he said. "This is a good start, I can tell you that."

For now, we'll just add it to our long list of reasons to drink coffee -- as if we needed another one.

For more info on how to address problems with ED, read this previous HuffPost report.

UV protective clothing that doesn't cost a fortune

UV protective clothing won't allow for sunblock-free living, but it definitely minimizes how much skin you need to cover. We found all the essential pieces for less than $20 each — a fraction of what they used to cost.

Long sleeve rash guards

Don't freak out — the long sleeves won't smother your family in the summer heat. The breathable fabrics help keep skin cool, even if you don't wear them in water. Choose long sleeve rash guards instead of traditional tops if you plan to spend the day at an amusement park. You won't have to remember to reapply sunblock to arms, leaving more time to focus on fun. When shopping rash guards, always check the tag for the UV protection rating. Some cheaper options don't offer any at all.

Protective Hats

Wispy baby hair leaves scalps susceptible to sunburn, making sun hats a necessity. Find hats with wide brims to shade the eyes and flaps to cover the back of the neck, especially for younger babies. Be cautious with chin straps, as drawstrings and ties can present an entanglement or strangulation hazard.

Sunday Afternoons UPF 50 play hat

Finding big kid sun hats is next to impossible, never mind trying to find one for $20 or less. These hats from Sunday Afternoons are the gold standard — they have a breathable liner, adjustable crown sizing and come in tons of colors. Ages 2-10. (The Portable Baby, $20)

Protective eyewear

Even if you choose to eschew UV protective clothing in favor of sunblock, eye protection is essential. Make sure each of your kids has a well-fitting pair of sunglasses or goggles for those long days at the pool. Go cheap on the sunglasses and buy a bunch — they get lost and broken like crazy when little kids are involved.

Meatless Monday: Spicy chipotle sloppy Joes with creamy cilantro slaw

Open-meatless-spicy-chipotle-sloppy-Joes

TVP is a soy product that is high in protein and fiber. It doesn't have any fat, and it makes a great alternative to adding meat to your recipes (something vegans and vegetarians can appreciate). It's the perfect choice to make these meatless sloppy Joes.

Meatless-spicy-chipotle-sloppy-joes-creamy-slaw

This is a sloppy Joe the adults will love. The chipotle in adobo sauce adds a great kick to these sandwiches, and the creamy slaw helps cool things down a bit, with a little added crunch as a bonus.

Meatless chipotle sloppy Joes with creamy cilantro slaw recipe

This comforting, classic dish is a delight for gatherings or just a Wednesday night. It's easy to make, and that makes it perfect for dinner.

Serves 4-6

Prep time: 15 minutes | Cook time: 15 minutes | Total time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

For the creamy cilantro slaw

  • 1-1/2 cups green cabbage, shredded
  • 1-1/2 cups purple cabbage, shredded
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons fresh torn cilantro leaves

For the sloppy Joes

  • 1-1/2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup dry TVP (textured vegetable protein)
  • 7/8 cup boiling water
  • 1/4 cup white onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 large carrot, ends trimmed, peeled and diced small
  • 16 ounces tomato sauce
  • 2-3 tablespoons chipotle in adobo sauce, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried coriander
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 6 burger buns

Directions:

For the creamy cilantro slaw

  1. In a medium-size bowl, toss the cabbage.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, vinegar and sugar, and whisk until the sugar has dissolved.
  3. Drizzle the mayonnaise mixture over the cabbage. Add the cilantro, and toss well until coated.
  4. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

For the sloppy Joes

  1. To a large bowl, add the dry TVP. Pour the boiling water over the TVP, and stir it.
  2. To a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. When the oil is hot, add the onion, and cook for about 4 minutes. Add the carrot about 2 minutes into cooking the onion.
  3. Add the garlic, and cook for about 30 seconds. Add the tomato sauce, chipotle in adobo sauce, soy sauce and seasonings. Stir, and simmer for about 10 minutes.
  4. Serve warm on buns topped with the creamy chipotle slaw.

New Review on 3/4 Sit-Up

Exercise: 3/4 Sit-Up
Review: Great demonstration in my opinion. For me, something as simple as using dumbells as an anchor has really revolutionized my workout. When it comes to strengthening my core, it really comes down to just working those abs. Plus, when my abs are weak on some days, I can see my quad muscles compensating when I'm doing the same exercise. So many variations one can put into this exercise...which I have.

Salem theory: Tituba has her sights set on forbidden fruit

More: Total proof this is the most feminist show on TV

Listen: We know how TV shippers work. We almost always want our favorite ladies to return to their first loves. But, in the real world, that just doesn't happen that often. And if any show is rooted in the "real world," it's Salem, right? (Ha!) Mary and John were good when they were younger. And they created the most beautiful spawn of Satan we've ever seen. (The Omen's Damien was creepy, but Lil' John is creepy and adorable. World domination: Here. He. Comes.) But their ship has sailed.

John and Mary are no good for each other. Need proof? Don't forget that infamous episode where Mary went walking through John's dreams. Who does that?! Would we have loved to know WTH he was thinking when he was slouched on the couch counting cracks in the ceiling? Sure. But no amount of witchcraft would lead us to wander through his mind. And remember: While she had fun toying with his, ahem, desires, she had no interest in thoroughly examining his feelings. Mary's still pissed he left and John will always be pissed she didn't wait. Moreover, he'll be pissed about that oh-so-terrifyingly adorable secret she kept from him. Too much time and too much bad blood have passed. Let it go.

More: Brannon Braga promises exciting power struggle in Season 2

That said, we do still want John to find love, right? Or, you know, at least some fulfillment. That's why, when this snippet of dialogue appeared on the official Salem Instagram account, we may have shrieked and added a few more ceiling cracks. Whatever. No regrets. This exchange is totally worth it.

British Pastor 'Humbled' By The Love She Got After Telling Her Congregation She Is HIV-Positive

A British pastor took the brave step of telling her congregation that she was HIV-positive -- and got what she called a "humbling" response from her loving flock.

Rev. Hayley Young, a 28-year-old minister at Hayling Island Baptist Church, told HuffPost she contracted HIV during an attack. It was a shock for her, but she believed that God would give her the strength to deal with it. When her body started showing side-effects from the drugs she was using, her members started asking questions. She said it would have been too "emotional" to tell her church members face to face, so she decided to do it on YouTube.

"I decided to tell the church that I was HIV positive because I tell people every day to be proud of who they are and that God loves them just the way they are - so I had to practise what I preached," Young told HuffPost in an email.

"I am so humbled by the response I have had from the congregation and the community at Hayling Island; they have been so supportive and loving," Young continued. "So often the church gets in wrong and can isolate and [exclude] people however the church has shown itself to be a real inclusive community to which I am proud to belong."

10 Baby products with the worst Amazon reviews

Fellow moms, I'm serious. If you have run out of shows to binge-watch on Netflix, head on over to Amazon. In the world of baby products especially, where parents are known to take life very, very seriously (myself included), drama is sure to unfold in the product review section.

Get out the popcorn. These angry customer reviews are going to be good:

1. Amber teething necklace

Amber necklace

(Amazon, $16)

If you have ever said to yourself, "I don't know what amber is, but I hate this necklace," this could be the baby product for you. The lone, disappointed reviewer says, "I don't know what amber looks like, but this necklace looks more like plastic beads than amber stone. If it had actually come with the certificate of authenticity, as advertised, I would be more satisfied, but I purchased two necklaces, and none of them came with the certificate. Very upset and would return if I could."

2. Baby bath hat

Baby hat

(Amazon, $10)

Confession: I always wanted to put my baby in one of these head-umbrella contraptions for the sheer comedic relief, but I never got around to buying one. Now I feel justified after one reviewer explains, "You're about to buy a Styrofoam plate. Just take a Styrofoam plate and cut a hole in it, save yourself the money."

3. Bathtub bubble maker

Bubble toy

(Amazon, $22)

In my favorite review title in the history of ever, Dawn Haddaway writes, "Where there is smoke... There is UH-OH." Haddaway, a mom who should probably work in advertising with creative writing talents like that, continues, "The 2-year-old is in the tub, and I am listening carefully as moms do. I hear the dreaded, 'SMOKE… Mommy, SMOKE.' Yes, this little number was smoking while hanging on the side of the tub."

4. Bumbo

Bumbo

(Amazon, $50)

Am I the only parent who had a good experience with my Bumbo and still recommends it to all my friends? Apparently, yes. Reviewers warn that this product is not expert recommended and not worth the price. Mai Nguyen went so far as to post a picture of her four-month-old baby squished all up inside the Bumbo to prove how terrible it is, but all I can think is: adorable.

Baby

5. Breast pump

Breast pump

(Amazon, $50)

A breast pump is supposed to suck, but it isn't supposed to suck. See the difference? One reviewer captures my sentiment exactly. Katie Mazza writes, "Sucks and not the way it should! I'd have given it zero stars if I could. This thing is a piece of absolute junk. My pump died, and I bought this one to replace it. It worked for a total of four pumping sessions."

6. Cloth diaper

Cloth diaper

(Amazon, $15)

To paraphrase one irate reviewer: Whoever made these cloth diapers should be arrested and sent to jail! Sound harsh? Leon O. Mullis explains his unyielding cloth diaper standards in his "NOT A DIAPER!!!" one-star review, "IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL TO CALL THIS A DIAPER. It was bought as a gift for my newborn great-grandson's parents, and when I saw it, I was ashamed of myself for buying it. It is of poor quality, just thin gauze, and I have no idea as to how it could be used."

7. Crib

Crib

(Amazon, $130)

Hold on to your seats, parents, because these toe-curling crib reviews are going to freak you the funk out. Jeffery S. Byrd says, "I laid my 7-month-old baby in the bed for a nap. I heard a scream like I never heard before. I rushed in and found my baby on the floor. The platform that holds the mattress broke, and my infant was on the floor pinned by the platform and mattress." Oh. My. God. Another unhappy reviewer adds, "It has always been a great crib. My daughter still used it up until recently. She was under the weight limit, and the bottom cracked. Thankfully, she was not hurt."

8. Hook-on high chair

High chair

(Amazon, $75)

This hook-on high chair is a great idea, if you think your baby can spare a finger. Marcia says, "I've had this high chair for two months now and have loved it up until yesterday. My 6-month-old daughter got her finger stuck in one of the three circular metal hoop tabs on the front of the seat. Thankfully, I didn't just grab her out of the seat when I noticed her screaming in pain. She caught her tiny finger up inside one of these hoops and was trying desperately to pull it out. Once I finally managed to dislodge her finger, I noticed that her blood vessels were broken in the tip of her finger."

9. Nursing pillow

Nursing pillow

(Amazon, $35)

You know what every new mom needs? A nursing pillow that makes breastfeeding even harder. According to Aileen14, if using this nursing pillow doesn't kill you, it will only make you stronger. "I have to say that this pillow didn't really amaze me. I think it made the nursing process more difficult for me. Regular pillows were much more effective because I was able to prop little one up higher and closer to me. This pillow has a tendency to make you lean and slouch while nursing, which equals major discomfort and improper form."

10. Stroller

Stroller

(Amazon, $55)

At first glance, we see that this stroller has been suspiciously discontinued by the manufacturer. Maybe it's because of its tendency to swallow up little children like a Venus fly trap. One pissed-off parent explains, "This stroller has now three times collapsed with my son inside it. The first two times, I thought it was my fault — that I maybe did not push the metal open all of the way when unfolding it. WRONG. We hit a bump on the sidewalk, and it completely folded with my son in the seat."

Why this senior's last day of school dress got her suspended

Short dress high school

Short dress high school

As you can see in the picture, Reay's mint green above-the-knee dress is the type of outfit you would wear to church or brunch with Grandma — at least, all of the churches I have gone to. Reay tells ABC 8 the reason behind her dress choice, "It was my last day of school. I wanted to feel good about myself. I was fixing to be a woman in this world that was conquering anything."

Instead, Reay was told by her teacher, Legrand Leavitt, to go home and change her dress. Reay refused. Leavitt threatened to call the school superintendent and hold Reay's high school diploma because of her insubordination. After the incident, which Reay described as "threatening and out-of-line," Reay called her mother to bring her new clothes to school — only to find she had been suspended anyway.

The teacher's side of the story came out when Reay and her mother, Michelle Reay, conferenced with Leavitt and the school principal Tyler Telford. The teacher claims Reay acted rude and "got in his face" after being told her dress was too short. Reay's mother says that while the dress may not have been entirely appropriate, the school handled the dress code confrontation poorly.

According to the high school's handbook, if a student violates dress code with inappropriate dress, they should first call home to ask for extra clothing — which Reay did after the fact — or can be provided extra clothes by the school to complete the school day.

Reay points out what so many students argue again and again every time a dress code violation comes into play, most often targeted at female students: The school jumped the gun. The way they handled this possibly appropriate dress was unfair. Instead of following the plan laid out in the handbook, a plan where Reay should have been first asked to call her mother to bring extra clothes, this senior with a good track record was suspended on her last day of school. She was even threatened with the loss of her diploma, an honor she had spent four years working for, just because of a dress. Thankfully, school board trustee Dan Garner is working to expunge this suspension from Reay's record.

The funny thing about these dress code violations that make the news is that they most often hinge on a small freak-out most outside observers don't understand. Yes, dress codes are there for a reason. It would truly be inappropriate for a student, male or female, to show up half-dressed to school.

But this student came to school on her last day in a beautiful dress that showed a little knee. It's hard to find the logic in a dress code blowup over an outfit you could wear to church. Extreme dress code enforcement like this is essentially a school crying wolf — so much time is being wasted on silly dress code violations that no one will take real dress code issues seriously.

Tips for nailing a Skype interview

1. Don't forget your pants

Angie Hill, general manager of Microsoft's Apps and Services organization, pretty much runs her team via Skype and other remote communication methods. She says, "Even though your boss can't see that you're in your sweatpants or jogging shorts, you'll feel extra confident if you pair a blazer with a chic pair of pants or skirt." So many people think they can fake it, but what if you have to stand up to get a pen or retrieve paperwork?

Try to stick to neutrals with only a few minor pops of color (no complicated patterns), and avoid distracting jewelry or anything that would make noise as you move.

2. Get ready for your close-up

Your hair should be neat and out of your face, and even if you don't usually wear it, makeup is recommended (even for men!). It's the same principle as wearing makeup on camera — it's just to keep you from looking washed out. But think Ellen DeGeneres, not Kim Kardashian.

3. Set the stage

Angie Hill also recommends setting up an appropriate place in your house to have the interview. It should have a clean backdrop free of clutter like busy artwork or personal photos, but avoid large blank walls. I do my Skype interviews in my office with my webcam facing my well-stocked, clean-lined, full-wall Ikea bookcase, which is also a subtle indicator that I'm a reader (which people associate with intelligence). But don't overdo it. Having all your awards sitting in the background is tacky.

It shouldn't be exposed to harsh light that might glare on your face, but natural light is actually a great idea in terms of looking more "human." If possible, avoid fluorescent lighting. Put a bright enough desk lamp behind your computer to light you from the front if necessary. Backlighting is never flattering and can actually mess with the camera.

4. Test your equipment

Hill also advises making sure you're in a place with a strong internet connection. If that's not an option, there are tons of quality hot spots you can buy. I like my Karma because it works well and there are no monthly fees (the device is $149 and the connection is pay as you go, plus there are tons of ways to earn free connection time). And if you don't have one, you can buy Skype credit to access millions of hot spots if you're not at home.

Also, make sure you have a quality webcam with good reviews hooked up properly and securely so it doesn't cause the Blair Witch Project effect. Splurge if you have to.

5. Practice makes perfect

Before your interview, make a few practice calls to a friend to ensure you know how everything works. Skype doesn't natively support call recording, but there are third-party applications you can buy that do. Recording the practice calls is a good idea because you can really study how you look, the angles, the lighting and what you do that might take you out of frame (but if you want to record the actual call, you must ask permission first). For added measure, do dress rehearsals in the same spot you'll use for the interview.

6. Sit up straight and don't forget to smile!

Sit up straight but make sure you don't look stiff. It makes you look more professional and confident.

In an in-person conversation, smiling and appropriate body language happen naturally, but when you're on the computer, some people end up looking like zombies as they get lost in their own thoughts and distracted by equipment issues. Make sure you stay engaged in the conversation.

7. Look at the camera

It's human instinct to look people in the eyes, but on a Skype call, that means looking at the camera, not the interviewer. To help yourself keep that vital eye contact, get a small headshot of a businessperson from a magazine. Cut out one of the eyes, tape it over the webcam (so the lens isn't blocked) to help it seem more natural and look that person in the eye.

That said, follow photo rules. Take a look at great "candid" celebrity photos (Christina Aguilera is a master), and you'll see a common theme. Instead of directly facing the camera like you're having a mugshot taken, turn your body slightly to one side, then turn your head back to face the camera. But nothing too extreme — think high-end school photo instead of red carpet.

8. Close other programs and turn off your phone

Unless you'll need to reference something during the call, close everything you have open. There's nothing more embarrassing than getting an audible social media notification during a professional interview. Also, turn your phone off or be prepared to explain why your mom's ringtone is "Dance, Porcupine, Dance."

9. Double check that profile

If you set up your Skype originally for personal reasons, just double check that your bio and profile pic are professional. You don't want their first impression of you to be the body shot you did off that hot bartender in Cabo. If your username is something like "touchedafrog" (based on a true story), consider setting up a different account or changing your username.

10. Shut out distractions

Make sure everyone in the house knows you're on a call and can't be disturbed, and if possible, put any animals outside so they don't end up being stars on your own personal "This is My Life." If possible, make sure your "Skype studio" is in a quiet room where you can close the door.

'Sugar tax' could raise money to treat obesity says health minister

The Telegraph reported that Freeman is the first minister to publicly back a "sugar tax," telling a Hay Festival audience that "where there is a commercial product which confers costs on all of us as a society, as in sugar, and where we can clearly show that the use of that leads to huge pressures on social costs, then we could be looking at recouping some of that through taxation."

Freeman isn't alone in his views: senior figures at the Department of Health, including chief medical officer Dame Sally Davies and chairman of the Food Responsibility Network Susan Jebb, have publicly backed a "sugar tax."

According to a 2013 UN Food Agriculture Organisation report, obesity levels in the U.K. have more than trebled over the last 30 years and one in four U.K. adults is obese.

More: Your body on sugar cravings: What it's telling you

In "Measuring Up," a 2013 report on the nation's obesity crisis by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, Professor Terence Stephenson said that obesity was "the biggest public health crisis facing the U.K. today."

"It's now time to stop making excuses and instead begin forging alliances, trying new innovations to see what works and acting quickly to tackle obesity head on — otherwise the majority of this country's health budget could be consumed by an entirely avoidable condition," he continued.

Will Freeman's warning force food companies to be more health-conscious? Perhaps Tesco will lead the way: the supermarket giant has made a commitment to reduce added sugars by five percent per year, for the next four years, in all its own-label soft drinks. This means that after four years around two teaspoons of sugar will have been removed from a can of Tesco own-label fizzy drink.

Some fizzy drinks contain as many as up to 11 teaspoons of sugar in one 330 millilitre can so there's certainly plenty of room for improvement.

Visit NHS Choices for more information on sugar guidelines and tips on how to reduce your daily sugar intake.

9 Vaginal health myths we need to stop believing

I'm serious. I throw the word around like candy during a Fourth of July parade, and it's mostly to watch how people respond. The word itself is powerful enough to deflate or buoy a whole room. And any body part that is powerful enough to bring conversation to a screeching halt is bound to have some myths attached to it. Let's bust 'em — for the sake of female health and pleasure.

Myth 1: Vaginal odor is a hygiene issue

Most women will experience odor at some point in their lives, but it's not typically caused by improper hygiene. Odor is usually caused by changes to your pH levels — if your pH is whacked due to hormones, sex or menstruation, you're at increased risk of bacterial proliferation. Bacterial infections, in turn, are the most common cause of vaginal odor.

Your vagina might also smell like a vagina, and that's cool. It's not a hygiene problem.

Myth 2: The vagina is the entire thing

Nope. The vagina is one component of an intricate web that comprises the female reproductive system. It is 3 to 5 inches long, and connects a woman's uterus to the outside world. The labia majora, labia minora and the clitoris are often confused for the vagina — but they're not the same thing.

More: Why are we afraid of the word 'vagina'?

Myth 3: Regular sex decreases vaginal tone

Your vagina is a muscle. Regular exercise — whether it's sex or Kegels — can actually increase vaginal tone. The idea of a "loose" woman is a myth.

Myth 4: First intercourse hurts because it tears the hymen

Most women report that their first sexual experience hurt a little bit, and people tend to assume it's because sex stretches or tears the hymen. Chances are, however, that the pain was at least partially the result of awkward fumbling. Many women break their hymens in their adolescence during activities that are unrelated to sex.

Myth 5: Douching keeps things fresh

Douching may smell like a summer's evening, but it's also linked to vaginal infections, increased risks of sexually transmitted infections and difficulty getting pregnant. Don't douche. We've already covered that your vagina is supposed to smell like a vagina.

Myth 6: Urinary incontinence is for new moms and old ladies

It's a problem for many women, actually. According to the National Institutes of Health, one in five young adult women, one in three middle-aged women and one in two elderly women struggle with urinary incontinence. Talk to your doctor if this is an issue you face — there's no shame, and it is super common.

More: Natural pain remedies so you can ditch the meds and go pill-free

Myth 7: Reduce sugar intake to prevent yeast infections

Unless you're depositing sugar directly into your vagina, this myth is bunk. Research has shown that sugar intake does not impact the levels of naturally occurring yeast found in and around your vagina.

Myth 8: Sexually transmitted infections are a sign of promiscuity

Sure, it's hard to get an STI without having sex, and no one is calling an STI a good thing. The fact is, however, that most sexually active women will contract an STI at some point in their lives, so it's hardly a malady of loose and craven women.

Myth 9: Vaginas are kinda weird

Vaginas are amazing, not weird. Over half of the human population has one, so let's get over it already, shall we?

Reese Witherspoon just announced her next role — and it's magical

More: We're totally in love with Reese's clothing line

Tinkerbell might be one of the most well-loved and oft-adapted characters in Disney history. From her start as the magical, glowing fairy who seemed to only speak to Peter in J. M. Barrie's original tale of Peter Pan, her popularity has continued to spiral upward. She's been nothing but a bell and high-powered flashlight in the stage version to a temperamental sass-face in the Disney animated classic. Later, in the much-loved Hook, from Steven Spielberg, she was played by none other than Julia Roberts. Thanks to fond memories of the film, the Roberts version seems to be most millennials' favorite. Something tells us that's all about to change, though.

It makes sense Witherspoon would end up taking the lead. She's not only the very embodiment of Tink, with her precocious smile and perfectly blond locks, but she was already tied to the film. While little else is known about the film as of yet, we do know that Witherspoon is set to produce the film under her own production company, Pacific Standard. We also know that Victoria Strouse has been tapped to write the script. You may not know much about Strouse, but here's a bit of insight: She's currently working on the Finding Nemo sequel, Finding Dory. If Disney trusts her with one of its most anticipated sequels of all time, we can trust her with Tink.

More: Reese doesn't trust Ryan to be alone with their kids

Tink is far from the first live adaptation of a classic. We've already had Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, Maleficent and Cinderella. And, aside from Tink, Disney has a few more live versions coming down the pipeline, including Dumbo, Winnie the Pooh (what?!), The Jungle Book, an Alice in Wonderland sequel and, yes, Beauty and the Beast.

Oh, man, We're stoked.

End the Inequity, End Fistula

Co-authored by Mira Sorvino, Actress, Activist and Mother

When we wanted to shake up the conversation about the crucial need for contraception globally with our #WTFP?! (Where's the Family Planning?!) campaign, Academy Award-winning actress Mira Sorvino was a natural fit.

Who better understands the importance of having access to quality maternal health care and contraception than a mother herself?

When Mira was pregnant with her third child, she had a series of very frightening complications -- a scary experience that truly shook her. But thanks to exceptional care and family support, these moments of fear and concern were ultimately followed by absolute happiness.

Unfortunately, for many women around the world, the joyous relief following childbirth never arrives.

Obstetric fistula is a devastating childbirth injury typically caused by obstructed labor, after which the infant is most often stillborn, and the woman is left incontinent.

It is almost entirely preventable with access to family planning and quality maternal health care, and it can be treated with fistula repair surgery. Yet, roughly one to two million girls and women continue to suffer from obstetric fistula, primarily in Africa and Asia.

While obstructed labor can happen to any woman no matter where she lives, it only leads to severe injuries like obstetric fistula in places without access to emergency obstetric care. In the United States, we have the ability to easily perform cesarean sections and space pregnancies to allow our bodies to heal, yet, in developing countries, nearly half of women don't have access to trained medical support during labor, and many have limited-to-no access to family planning methods.

May 23 marks the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula -- a day to take action to raise awareness and intensify actions toward ending fistula.

Organizations like EngenderHealth work with partners to equip health facilities, train surgeons and other clinicians and engage communities in prevention, awareness and stigma reduction, so that women living with fistula will seek treatment. To date, EngenderHealth and partners have helped more than 27,000 women undergo surgery, but much more must be done to reach the backlog of women living with fistula and to prevent future cases.

Science may have discovered the key to reversing aging signs

British scientists at the University of Birmingham have found an enzyme that they believe is responsible for the muscle wasting that happens in our bodies as we age. Muscle wasting is the reason it becomes harder to do basic things like lift grocery bags or run upstairs as you get older. Their research showed much higher levels of this enzyme in older women specifically, which led them to home in on it as the trigger for this degeneration. If they can figure out how to switch off the enzyme, it could be the answer to slowing down, stopping or even reversing some of the more adverse signs of aging.

The study, which looked at 134 healthy men and women between the ages of 20 and 80, involved testing muscle strength, body composition and biochemical profiling. Those who had reduced grip strength, poorer body composition and increased levels of cortisol (sadly all older women) had comparatively high levels of the enzyme 11β-HSD1. Levels actually increased 2.72 times in women over 60 versus women between the ages of 20 and 40, whereas men showed no change.

Researchers aren't really sure why the rising enzyme levels only seem to affect women. Dr. Zaki Hassan-Smith, from the University of Birmingham, told the Daily Mail, "As yet, we don't know why it appears to only occur in women, it is obviously an interesting area for further research." They think it might have something to do with higher estrogen levels in women, but that's only a theory.

The increased cortisol levels in conjunction with the 11β-HSD1 enzyme is what initially caught researchers' attention. They saw how its levels rose in patients with Cushing syndrome — the genetic disorder that causes muscle wasting, thinning bones, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease — and thought there might be a connection to normal degeneration caused by aging.

"We knew how it works in relation to Cushing's Syndrome, which is characterised by similar symptoms, and thought it would be worthwhile applying what we knew to the aging population," said Dr. Hassan-Smith to the Daily Mail. The whole point of the study was to see if they could discover new ways to increase how long people can have active, healthy lifestyles, which is an admirable use of research money if I ever heard one.

This new enzyme connection may be the answer to staving off sarcopenia — the scientific term for age-related muscle wasting. And work is already being done by pharmaceutical companies to figure out how to block it, and thus halt the muscle deterioration it causes. Beyond that, this discovery could do wonders for other degenerative diseases like diabetes, to which researchers are giving specific attention.

The next step is of course a series of clinical trials to test these inhibitors that the pharmaceutical companies develop. Naturally, Dr. Hassan-Smith has high hopes for the study going forward. "It's an as yet unexplored area that could yield beneficial results for a problem that is becoming more prevalent as our lifespans increase." True statement. What's the point of living longer if you can't really live?
