A source told People.com that "[Bruce] Jenner, 65, who calls his female identity 'Her,' will appear as a woman in the Vanity Fair pictorial, to hit stands this summer."
Our minds are buzzing with ideas for art direction! Of course, Jenner isn't the first transgender celebrity to be celebrated on the cover of a major American magazine.

Laverne Cox from Orange Is the New Black made history when she appeared on the cover of Time, but she was very clear that her story wasn't ubiquitous. Cox told Time, "There's not just one trans experience. And I think what [people] need to understand is that not everybody who is born feels that their gender identity is in alignment with what they're assigned at birth, based on their genitalia. If someone needs to express their gender in a way that is different, that is OK, and they should not be denied healthcare. They should not be bullied."
Jenner's story is unique to him, and we expect his photo shoot to reflect his journey from Olympic athlete to family man to reality TV star. Finally landing on his new identity as a woman is just the icing on the cake, and we want Jenner's photos to reflect his entire life.

In addition to the trans community celebrating this exciting magazine cover, no doubt the world of publishing sees this as a win for selling actual magazines. With the popularity of online outlets, people are buying fewer paper magazines, and this event will no doubt inspire many people to purchase the issue with the hope that it will become a collector's item.
So what can we expect from the Jenner/Leibovitz photo shoot? We're hoping for an exotic locale and a designer dress at the very least. Leibovitz photographed the cast of Star Wars for the cover of June's Vanity Fair, and the photographs were classy and thought-provoking, giving a nod to the history of the beloved franchise. We hope Jenner's photographs will do the same.
