Shelby Mitchusson is an ASL interpreter who performed Eminem's "Lose Yourself" on YouTube. It's absolutely beautiful. And though it's her first viral video, she has been doing this for years. Look out for her. See below:
lose yourself
What is most amazing about this video is her passion. It's easy for an interpreter to sit back and just phone it in, but her sign language conveys the tone of the music. The passion. The anger. The vitality of Eminem. Even a person who can't hear can feel that. And that's the whole point.
"I have a deep love for interpreting music and would love to share more as I am always interpreting music," she wrote on YouTube.

For people with disabilities, it can be very difficult to get equal treatment. ASL interpretation can be an afterthought. With this woman's passion, she's bringing that issue to the forefront. Why shouldn't ASL interpreters use their bodies to really convey what is being said? A deaf person may never "hear" the sharp tones in Eminem's voice or the way he angrily spits out his words, but they will see her and her body movements and be able to feel all the emotion inherent in the song.

And that's the whole point. For those of us who haven't stopped to think about ASL or interpretation for deaf people, this is a must watch. Listen with the sound off and prepare to be amazed.
